You might expect a former miner's cottage to be small and dark. You could be in for a surprise, Stybarrow Cottage is an airy and spacious cottage spread over three floors.
It has been lovingly refurbished to provide comfortable holiday accommodation for up to 6 people and is a real home from home which combines tradition with modern comforts.
The Ground Floor
Open Plan Kitchen, Dining and Lounge
The ground floor is open plan and comprises a well equipped kitchen, dining room and comfortable lounge - which means even if it's your turn to cook you can join in the chat and banter. And from the kitchen and garden there are wonderful views towards Place Fell and Keldas.
Our holiday cottage is comfortable and well equipped. We think you'll have everything you'll need. The modern kitchen is equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, family sized fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. There's is also a slow cooker and an electric iron. Good storage area for boots and coats. Mountainous views from the kitchen window procure pot washing pleasure!
In the lounge there are 2 large comfy sofas and a welcoming multi-fuel stove - ideal for lazing on after a day on the fells.
The cottage has a 32" smart TV with Freeview satellite programmes, and an array of apps where guests can log in to their own subscription channels using the free Wi Fi, There is a DVD player with a good choice of DVDs, Panasonic Smart Hi-fi system facilitates streaming a wider choice of music besides the available CDs. A plentiful choice of books and info about the local area as well as a range of wide range of games - for children, young and old! The dining table comfortably seats 6 and offers an excellent area to enjoy the games and jigsaws available, as well as a social eating area
The multi-fuel stove operates the central heating system; there are radiators in all the rooms. In addition, there are modern Dimplex storage heaters in the lounge and first floor landing with the top floor bedroom fitted with an electric Dimplex radiator.
The First Floor
An open wooden staircase leads to the first floor, where there is one double bedroom and one twin bedded room. The bedrooms are simple and comfortable and bed linen is provided at no additional cost. All the beds will be made up for your arrival. And you should have plenty of storage space for rucksacks, walking gear, toys and everything else you bring with you on holiday.
The double bedroom is located at the back of the cottage and looks over the garden and fields towards Keldas and Place Fell - and really catches the sun.
The twin bedded room is a good sized room and enjoys fine views towards Sheffield Pike and Glenridding Dodd. An ironing board, laundry basket, and clothes airers are stored in this room.
On the first floor there is also a modern bathroom with WC, washbasin and bath, and a light up mirror; a second toilet with small sink; and a separate shower room - ideal after a long day in the hills when everyone is longing for a soak in the bath or a shower!
The Top Floor
The top floor at Stybarrow Cottage is reached via a carpeted stairway. This room is without a doubt the best room in the house - a chance to escape from everyone else, curl up on the settee and enjoy the views.
Adequate storage provision. A cooling fan and hairdryer is stored in this room.
From the comfortable double bed you can enjoy stunning views of the night sky through the large Velux windows, whilst the cozy 2 seater settee provides the opportunity to relax and savour the superb views of Place Fell and Keldas.
Balcony
The modern balcony has stunning panoramic views to Place Fell and Keldas, as well as the Mires Beck path leading up eventually to Striding Edge. It offers a peaceful retreat, with seating for two available in the storage box. A gorgeous setting to soak up the sun, people watch the dots of mountain walkers, or a quiet corner to complete a crossword.
Garden Area
Stybarrow Cottage has its own garden which is real sun trap. There is a grassed area where the children can run around and let off steam. There is a lovely patio at the bottom of the garden with garden furniture and barbeque. A small bistro table with 2 chairs and a bench opposite the back door.
Parking
Stybarrow Cottage has the advantage of private off road parking for 2 medium sized vehicles. Consequently guests are assured there will not be the worry of seeking a space on the limited street parking. Please note we do not have provision for EV charging, however, the nearby public car park offers charging facilities.
Additional Information
- Children of all ages are welcome at Stybarrow Cottage. There is a safety gate at the bottom of the open plan staircase but this facility is not on any of the landings. We do not have a cot, guests are welcome to bring their own travel cot. We can offer a high chair upon request.
- Stybarrow Cottage doesn't allow pets.
- The cottage does not permit smoking or vaping.
